In Floor Heating Under Carpet
Heavenly Heat’s floor heater system is installed below the floor surface, covering the entire area and thus evenly distributing heat throughout the room. By having the source of heat generation installed on the floor, this uses the tendency for heat rise up to the home’s advantage by warming the room, resulting in a warm floor and comfortable room temperature that is free of any hot and cold spots. A foil heater is most commonly used as a heating solution under the carpet. The heater is a super-thin, flat aluminum foil that is ideal in areas that are large and regular-shaped. Because it’s super thin, the foil doesn’t raise the floor levels visibly and hence it’s a great alternative when renovating. For floor heating to be effective, the carpet should be at least 1/4″ thick, but no more than 1″ thick. Also, the floor shouldn’t have a felt underlay as it may hinder the performance of the system. The R-value of the carpet shouldn’t be greater than one.
In Floor Heating Under Vinyl Floor
Heating systems installed under vinyl flooring should not exceed a temperature of 81°F. The technician will conduct a heat loss calculation in order to ensure that the floor is capable of providing sufficient heat. The exact underfloor heating system suitable for vinyl flooring will depend on whether it’s installed in a wet room or a dry room. An insulated underlay is most suitable for dry rooms such as the living room, bedroom or hallway. If the insulated underlay is installed in a wet room such as the bathroom, it may expand as a result of excess moisture. Sticky mats and loose wire systems are most suitable in wet rooms with vinyl floors.
Floor Heating Under Tile & Stone Floors
Tile and stone floors are durable and easy to clean which explains why they are commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms, corridors and laundry areas. Tile and stone floors can be heated 84°F which means under floor heating systems with heat outputs going up to 20W/ft² can be installed. Both electric and hydronic underfloor heating systems can be used in tile and stone floors. However, most people prefer the electric heating mats placed under tile. The mats are designed to suit irregularly shaped rooms and floors with many fixtures. The best underfloor heating system for a tile or stone floor is dependent on the size and shape of the area as well as the project at hand i.e. whether a renovation or new construction.
Floor Heating Under Hardwood & Laminate Floor
Underfloor heating is suitable for hardwood and laminate floors. It adds to the warmth and comfort of wooden flooring. The temperature of the wooden floor shouldn’t exceed 81°F (27°C). The underfloor heating system should also meet the room heating requirements, therefore, it’s important for a technician to perform heat loss calculation and measure the maximum heat output of the system installed. The thickness of the wood or laminate should not be more than 18mm to avoid hindering the performance of the system. If an underlay is used, it must not be more than 3mm -6mm thick. An R-Value of no more than 1.42 is recommended for wood or laminate flooring.

It also comes with extras that the more expensive systems do not come with such as the alarm to let you know if you have damaged the cable during installation. The thermostat takes a bit of time to learn and is not as easy, but once you figure out how to program it, its no problem. Will definitely buy again. The floor is already nice and warm.

Good quality and much cheaper than many heating cables out there. No problem at all. I didn’t use the installation strips but bought uncoupling membrane. It makes it much easier to install since you can remove the cable and move them closer. Keep in mind you cannot cut your cable. There is some trial and error until the coverage is perfect with your cable length. Thermostat works well too and is programmable with many options.
